Picking The Perfect Bridesmaid Dress | David's Bridal

David’s Bridal is taking extra safety precautions during the COVID-19 virus. We were all required to wear masks.

My dress has been chosen (yay!) and now it’s time to shop for my girls!

I must say I am incredibly lucky to have an incredible group of ladies that will be standing by side next year. So, I wanted to make sure that not only was I happy with the dress that we chose but I wanted to make sure that they were happy as well.

If you’ve been following along my #weddingjourney then you know I’m all about being practical and budget friendly. I wanted to select dresses that my girls could wear again. If you’re looking to find attire for your bridal party, then look on further than David’s Bridal. They carry sizes ranging from 0-30W which makes them the best choice when you have a party of all shapes and sizes. Not to mention most of their dresses are under $200 and they are located in several states and offer shipping! This is perfect when your maids live in different parts of the country.

My wedding theme is formal and romantic. I wanted to find a dress that would meet those needs. I knew going in that I wanted my girls in long floor length gowns. My biggest challenge was choosing the top style because the choices are endless; one shoulder, spaghetti straps, crisscross neck, and many more. I also considered doing mix and match styles but decided that I like a more uniform look.

Friendly Tip: Remember you are the BRIDE! Although you want to make everyone happy you won’t. Pick the dress that best matches your overall vision.

There are endless styles to choose from and what I’ve learned is that once you start trying the dresses on you’ll quickly realize what your ‘style’ is and it will make it easier to choose. The best part of the David’s Bridal experience is that they offer in-house alternations, additional fees will apply.

Check out what they tried on!

5 Reasons You Should Take Engagement Photos

DSC_3747.jpg

Should you take engagement photos? If you ask me, I’ll say yes a 1000 times and here’s why.

If you’re hiring a wedding photographer, chances are you like photos and you want to capture your special day...but what happens if you don’t know your photographer. Is the first time you meet them going to be on your wedding day? Most wedding photographers offer a complementary engagement session as a chance for you all to get to know each other.

Engagement photos are a great way to announce your engagement (if you can hold out that long without telling the news).

Using your engagement photos on your save the date cards are totally on trend. Adding your photograph is particularly helpful when sending out your cards to people who haven’t seen you in years. Also, to your parents friends or people that only know one of you. You are able to set the tone with your save the dates and invitations.

Taking engagement photos are a great way to express your creativity. Some couples may have a favorite activity that they enjoy and it’s the perfect time to incorporate in your session.

Lastly, take the photos if you want them. There is nothing wrong with creating memories. I am in love with my photographs and don’t regret taking them. I can’t wait to blow them up and hang them around our home.

Honestly, there are no real rules to weddings and marriage. It’s truly up to you and your partner. The most important thing is that you don’t lose focus of why you’re celebrating.

I knew I wanted to take formal engagement photos. I love how elegant they are and it gave me a chance to get comfortable with poses that I want for my wedding day. Our photographs were taken by Denise Benson Photography in Charlotte, NC. I wanted a skyline and it was so important that I got it. Needless to say...NAILED IT!!!

I hope you’ve found the little push you needed to take your engagement photos and have fun with them!

Budget Friendly Bride 101 | Wedding Venue

Choosing the right venue is critical when wanting to create a mood for your day. In the midst of planning, I was asked one very important question and it helped me to shape my idea of what I want for my wedding day. I was asked “If you could only spend your money on three things for your wedding day, what would they be?” Hands down, my answer, was number one the venue! I want my guest share in the experience that I want to create.

Step 1: What experience do you want to create?

For me it’s important my guests are able to see and feel the love when they walk into our venue. I want romance and a room filled with candles. It was also important that I had the option of choosing to have our ceremony outdoors and coming inside for the reception. If you read part one; you know I really wanted a beach wedding but that became more than I bargained for.

Step 2: Research and Visit Venues

I spent countless hours researching wedding venues in my area and getting quotes and taking tours. It’s important to see the venue in person.  A place can look amazing online but not be what you want once you arrive. Also, remember you have a lot of talented photographers that can make a place look great but in reality it’s just okay. Also read reviews! Although everyone won’t leave a good review it’s nice to know what other people think about a place. You’ll find helpful information.

For example, a former bride wrote that the bathrooms were small and the venue provided nowhere for bridal party to get dressed. Although I really liked the venue that was a deal breaker for me. I refused to pay for a 12-hour rental and would not have the space to get ready.

Be sure to look out for additional fees; some places require a security fee if you’re serving alcohol or additional fees for bringing in an outside caterer.

Friendly Tip: No matter the place you choose you will most likely need an all-day rental.

Step 3: Decide if the venue fits into your budget

Although this should probably be your first thought before viewing venues; some will offer all-inclusive packages that making saying yes to a venue worthwhile and budget-friendly. Know your budget and stick to it. I believe it’s important to have two numbers in mind. What you want to pay and what you’re willing to pay.

I hope you find these tips to be helpful in your wedding planning journey.

Good luck and happy planning!
